Festival News: Pitchfork Music Fest announces headliners, Lightning In A Bottle moves

A week after Coachella threw its spectacular lineup in all of our misshapen faces, Pitchfork announced the headliners for their annual Chicago festival. R. Kelly, Bjork, and Belle and Sebastian, three not-so-similar but still pretty big names will be headlining the three day event, with many more acts soon to be named to the billing.

In case you've forgotten, whatever happens at Pitchfork cannot happen at Lollapalooza, do to clauses in the festivals' contracts. So for any fans hoping for some combination of those three names - maybe next year.

Tickets for the July 19-21 fest are on sale now, with three-day passes coming in at $120, and single-day passes for a modest $50.

Sports Bar - Tyler Perry's Sports Bar

The early front-runner for the best album name of the year has to go to Richmond, Virginia garage rock dudes Sports Bar. Tyler Perry's Sports Bar has pretty much nothing to do with the actor, luckily. It's six rough cuts of Paul Westerberg-friendly pulp punk, including the deceptively fun lead track "My Friends."

The whole album is available to stream below, but head on to the group's Bandcamp to listen to individual tracks as you will. Sports Bar will be heading out on tour in the coming weeks, including a special stop at local favorite Kung Fu Necktie in Philadelphia, March 24.

New Action Bronson - Strictly 4 My Jeeps

Chef turned lovable Queens rapper Action Bronson, fresh off the release of his two stellar 2012 mixtapes Blue Chips and Rare Chandeliers, has a brand new - "Strictly 4 My Jeeps."

The Harry Fraud-produced track - complete with one of best backing beats in early 2013 - premiered late yesterday on Hot 97. There's a definite '90s rap feel here, with backing emergency horns and deep snares. Stream it below.

Johnny Brenda's, Feb. 1 - Buke And Gase (Preview)

Aron Sanchez and Aron Dyer, the same-named duo better known as NY piece Buke and Gase, are pulling themselves up. After years of twisting obscurity and figuring out their own mechanized ambitions, the two pieced together the metallic churn of Riposte in 2010.

Despite the size, as I've noted before, the two cull their sounds to seem bigger than themselves. Pedals - pedals everywhere. Watching Aron and Aron live as they maneuver their feet across a staggering amount of extra pieces seems exhausting. In a way, that seemed to be the living appeal of Buke and Gase - so much in such a small scene. The side-effect with Riposte seemed to be, however, stagnation. The band understood what worked but rarely strayed from it.

While the setup remains largely the same, the noise pop constructions on the band's latter two releases - the Function Falls EP and the recent General Dome LP - flirts with the idea of something bigger. The melodies twist into an experimental mesh, not necessarily dragging through to seem overly sensible. The methods are challenging, almost improbable to replicate considered how contorted the band's homemade instrument set is. It's the affirmative move from kitsch to positively unique.

Catch the duo in Philadelphia tomorrow night at Johnny Brenda's. The band will be preceded by fellow art-rockers Ahleuchatistas and Norwegian Arms. Tickets are still available here.

Solé Fixtape Vol. 7 (via Goldroom)

Among regular mixtape outlets, Solé Bicycle Co., a Venice, California bicycle company, may be a little lesser known. However, since starting in 2009, the company has been pretty courteous with their Solé Fixtape's.

This month's tape, the seventh in the series, is brought to us from Goldroom. Featured on the 17-track mix, which is free to download below, is the spirited Lindstrøm remix of Grizzly Bear's "Gun-Shy," and some of the newest from Toro y Moi's recent Anything In Return LP. Check the full tracklist after the bump.

Dick Diver - Water Damage

Featured over at Gorilla vs. Bear, "Water Damage," the new cut from Dick Diver's upcoming Calender Days LP, is a startlingly pleasant take in the mold of Real Estate. Stream/download the track below, and grab the Australian band's LP will be released some time this March via Chapter Music.

New Phaseone - Blood Spirit I

St. Louis production prodigy Phaseone has released his new churning, methodical "Blood Spirit I" from the upcoming May LP If I Tell U. The moody track comes a few weeks after Phaseone (Andrew Jernigan) released "It's Not Forever," featured on his Lefse split with Parisian.

Both are available below, but grab If I Tell U May 7 via Williams Street Records.

Kingdom's 'Clubposite' mix

The shockingly underrated Dismagazine dropped a brand new mix from LA producer Kingdom, featuring a healthy spot of low-key club bangers and R&B infused magnetism. Stream and/or download the 45-minute mix below, or head to Dismagazine for a little visual display.

New Colin Stetson - High Above A Grey Green Sea

Supreme experimentalist Colin Stetson will be releasing his third and final offering of the New History Warfare trilogy this April with Vol. 3: To See More Light. Featured on the upcoming LP will be the distant, jarring, and chaotic "High Above A Grey Green Sea."

Grab the LP April 30 via Constellation Records, and stream the track below.

Oneman's Solitaire Vol. 1 Mixtape

London's do everything producer Oneman, who fronts his own 502 label, DJ's for several English stations, and contributed to the super-special FabricLive series, has officially released his first full mixtape. Filled with  numbing blends of UK hip-hop (notice the Dizzee Rascal imprint) and minimalist house influences, it creeps over the 80 minute mark; perfect for wasting away in the positive sense.

Stream the mix below, with a full tracklist featured after the bump.

New Wavves - Demon To Lean On + tour dates w/FIDLAR

Last night, Wavves frontman Nathan Williams released some more information on yet another release hyped for early 2013. Wavves new studio LP, Afraid Of Heights, is set for release through Mom + Pop Records March 26. The first official single from the album, "Demon To Lean On," is also available to stream below.

But the more exciting news to go along with it is FIDLAR joining the upcoming Wavves tour. Full dates are listed after the bump, but local fans should be excited for the April 9 show at Johnny Brenda's.

New Black Moth Super Rainbow video - Hairspray Heart

After announcing several new dates for the band's North American tour (dates listed after the bump), Black Moth Super Rainbow released the brand new non-seizure friendly video for "Hairspray Heart." If you were wondering if any video today captures the essence of 1980s WWF and a Jacuzzi, well, it's here.

How To Dress Well - & It Was U (Elite Gymnastics Remix)

"& It Was U," one of the enigmatic tracks off How To Dress Well's celebrated Total Loss LP, has been given a glossy remix from Elite Gymnastics. Tom Krell's falsetto is still the star of the track, but EG's production throws a little light house to give it some welcome flavor.

Stream and/or download it below.

New Deerhoof video - We Do Parties

Featured on the San Francisco art-rocker's latest LP Breakup Songs, Deerhoof's newest video for "We Do Parties" features the band having that silly Lost In Translation style fun in Tokyo that we all imagine we can have.

Check it out below and grab Breakup Songs on Polyvinyl Records.

The Knife video - Full Of Fire

Remember at the end of last week when "Full Of Fire" hit online but no one could actually listen to it? Well that short-lived nightmare is over, because The Knife have released it with a new video 10 minute video. The video comes a few months before the release of the duo's super-anticipated Shaking The Habitual 3X(!) LP.
