Album Stream: Hit + Run - 777 (ft. Jeremiah Jae, Ras_G, Kutmah, Zeroh, Knxwledge, and more)

Southern California live screenprinting company Hit + Run might seem like an odd platform to release compilations, but the company - founded by Brandy Flower and Mike Crivello back in 2005 - has been curating these for a while now.

The group, which has previously held events at Coachella and SXSW, debuted the 777 29-track effort, which features the likes of B&B favorites Jeremiah Jae, Ras_G, Zeroh, Knxwledge, Kutmah, and plenty more. The entire comp can be bought on the Hit + Run Bandcamp, available below.

It's streaming in full courtesy of Spotify. Otherwise, head over to Amazon to order the full LP.

Album Stream: vhvl - myrrh

The newest entrant in the impossibly endless class of incredible new producers comes from Harlem resident vhvl, with her probably impossible to pronounce nine-track album myrrh.

Each track is equally hard to say, with none longer than three letters and pretty much absent of verbs. Hell, one of them isn't even letters, just two infinity symbols next to each other. I'm not that great at math but I'm pretty sure infinity x infinity cancels everything out too. So is the title really nothing?!

Anyway, the beats are strange, the loops are dark, and the album is awesome. Stream it below and download it at vhvl's Bandcamp.

Album Stream: Classic Drug References Vol. 1 - Various Artists

We've hit a bit on the glorious out-of-nowhere Classic Drug References compilation last week with Ras_G and Zeroh's "Yumshit" - a warped out, yet short one-two punch from the collection. Only a few days later, we get to here the whole thing, and holy shit you're in the right place.

Also included on the mix, which meshes wonderfully together, are well-established acts like Danny Brown, Knxwledge, Blu, and plenty of others, making for one of the year's best compilation efforts. Stream the entire thing below and order the Sweeney Kovar project here.

Album Stream: ESTA - Paradise

If you're an American, you've just come back from a long weekend. If you aren't, we're jealous of your long weekends. Regardless, you may have missed this new album from San Diego's ESTA, Paradise. The Bandcamp LP (available for $7) is full of drifty haze lay-back tracks, kind of how everyone imagines San Diego to be. Hey, 70 degree year-round weather surprisingly never gets old.

Stream the entire album below.

Album Stream: Cosmic Compositions Avant Garde Series Vol.3 - Sun Ra

After releasing the lengthy, unparalleled tribute compilations to jazz legends Pharaoh Sanders and Alice Coltrane, Comsic Compositions released the third portion of its Avant Garde Series, with the Volume Three tribute to the eternal Sun Ra.

The 32-track effort (yes, 32 tracks) features the talents of some wonderful, under-the-radar acts like Whoarei, Jelani, Lord Akton, Tony Douglas, and an army other talented performers. For someone as statuesque as Sun Ra is to jazz, the massive project does its best to keep his honor on a pedestal. The entire compilation is available for free download below, but if you do opt to pay, all the proceeds go towards disaster relief in the wake of the recent typhoon in the Philippines.

Album Stream: The Frights - The Frights

Last Halloween, San Diego surf punks The Frights dished out the muddy, yet intrinsically tight self-titled LP, which gives an enlightening boost to the all-too-often forgotten genre. The band stays within relative quarters, playing with echoes and reverb steadily fitting its clear inspirations, but throws an added array of spit on the effort.

Listen to the 12-track mash below and order the LP on The Frights' Bandcamp.

BREAKING: Death Grips release new album 'Government Plates'

Pretty much out of nowhere, after months of mysterious tour date disappearances, Sacramento meta-rap punk outfit Death Grips have a brand new album free and available for download. Chaotic restitution ensues with Government Plates.

Our Newest Obsession: Recycle Culture

Despite a strong 2013, I have completely missed out on the glory that is Recycle Culture. The producer debuted his four-track album No Note earlier today - an all-around stunning cascade of piano-heavy patterns and solemnly romantic expositions. It's heart-wrenching, engrossing, and "Holy Crap" pretty. Enough so to earn the first Our Newest Obsession tag of the year.

But it's only one of Recycle Culture's six(!) short albums released since late January. Each piece (check them out courtesy of his Bandcamp) drives from piano-heavy ambient sounds, but contains variations of tempo and mood within each. No Note, perhaps, stands out as the most starkly pretty, but it's only a small piece to the 2013 collage he's put together.

Check out No Note, in full, below, and order it by the "Name Your Price" discount.

Album Stream: Alexander Spit - Dillinger

Perhaps no act burst through 2013 better than California rapper/producer Alexander Spit. After releasing A Breathtaking Trip To That Otherside early in the year, and then the follow-up instrumental mixtape Mansions 2, Spit roars back with his 13-track Dillinger.

The hyper-literate effort hangs on as strong as the aforementioned albums, tempered with West coast bravado and dream-haze beats. A lot of acts have shown a reluctance to slow down, and Spit firmly remains in that cluster. But the consistency he possess is almost second-to-none.

Stream the whole album below and purchase it over at Alexander Spit's Bandcamp.

Album Stream: Lord Echo - Curiosities

Layered with swaying basslines and plush funk grooves is the sophomore LP from New Zealand act Lord Echo. While the instrumental varieties play out every which way on the LP, thanks to a bevy of under-the-radar guest talent, Lord Echo never abandons its funk/dance principles, laying out endless moments of 70s-inspired retro-grade.

Stream Curiosities in full below, via Potholes.

Album Stream: NX Records - Crossing Lines (Compilation)

Last month we previewed the first bit NX Records Crossing Lines compilation from Thefft. Now, the joint venture of Goldsmiths from the University Of London and Matthew Herbert's Accidental Records is previewing the entire effort, three days before its release.

Despite the preview, the compilation is actually a surprisingly eclectic batch of material, brimming with smooth vocal ambient tracks and clustered indie rock from a fresh batch of lesser-known South London acts. Stream the entire compilation below.

The NX Records pop-up shop will be open until November 23 at 310 New Cross Road, SE14 6AF in London.

Album Stream: KILN - meadow:watt

While I was so focused on Recondite's Hinterland, Ghostly International was also streaming another album from its seemingly never-ending lineup. This one comes from the minimalist experimentalists of KILN, which will be releasing meadow:watt the same day of Hinterland - November 11.

The album - the first from the trio on GI since its 2007 release Dusker - offers more quiet spacey hum than robust rhythms, making its Jupiter-esque album cover a bit more apt. Stream it below and pre-order meadow:watt here.

Album Stream: Ital Tek - Control

Over at XLR8R, Planet Mu label mate Ital Tek debuted his eight-track "mini" album Control. It's the Brighton producer's first follow-up to last year's Nebula Dance, which started to introduces hip-hop fused dub to his work.

Control pulls back a bit on that aesthetic, instead driving up his spacey minimalism to subtle, yet speedy rhythms. Fans of Nebula Dance need not worry, however, as Ital Tek still rings heavy on drum and bass - especially with the title track.

Stream it below before its November 11 release. Pre-orders are available here.

Stream: Acquaintance - Parapsychology EP

Running along the lines of bedroom ambiance and still-line pop minimalism is Brighton producer Acquaintance with his new four-track EP Parapsychology. The first track - "Telepathic" - is the only one which features vocals, which makes it kinda odd that it's the only track that falls flat. After that, however, the textures begin to arise with a much greater appeal.

Stream the entire effort below.

Album Stream: Recondite - Hinterland

Following up last year's On Acid - the debut LP from German producer Recondite - The Bavaria-born Lorenz Brunner has jumped labels, making his stay on the always appreciated Ghostly International.

The label is now streaming his second full-length Hinterland - a delicate showcase of Brunner's appreciation for spacey aesthetics and slow-burned beats - before its November 11 release. Stream it below for now and pre-order the effort here.

Album Stream: 1618 - 5 Days

Over the course of five days (see; album title) Russian producer 1618 threw together this 11-track mix of new and previously released material for a jaaaaaazy collection. Seriously, aside from the muddled samples and dangled synths, 5 Days comes across as a pretty overt love letter to jazz.

Stream it below and buy the collection on 1618's Bandcamp now.

Gardland video - Nothing But Zero

Australian electro-psyche outfit Gardland, whom I recently interview over at The Bomber Jacket, have debuted the newest video from the soon-to-be-released debut Syndrome Syndrome with "Nothing But Zero."

The naturalistic appeal of the video, which was directed by the duo and Z Wang, clashes with the metallic smear of "Nothing But Zero." The calming yet haunting minimalist approach of the track can be heard all throughout the band's debut, which is streaming in full via Pitchfork Advance.

Syndrome Syndrome will be fully released tomorrow in the US courtesy of RVNG.

Album Stream: Arcade Fire - Reflektor(!)

BREAKING:

Arcade Fire is streaming its entire fourth studio album Reflektor a few days before its October 29 release on YouTube and it's not a leak or anything.

Seriously, here's the whole album (with movie scenes to go with it). Check it out before its official release, courtesy of Merge.
