New Flaming Lips video - Turning Violent

For "Turning Violent," one of the standout tracks from Oklahoma's favorite sons, The Flaming Lips, the band does its best not to turn things into a sloppy visual display of epileptic lights and human bodies. Instead, while it may be a disappointment for some, "Turning Violent" comes away as a fairly normal performance music video. See for yourself, below.

Friday Bears: Sasquatch! 2012 lineup revealed

Sasquatch!, held every year in the Pacific Northwest, isn't regarded as one of the bigger music festivals in the United States, but is usually regarded as one of the best.

Last year, festival organizers enlisted the talents of the Foo Fighters, Wilco, Death Cab for Cutie, Modest Mouse, The Flaming Lips, and lot more over the course of four (yes, four) days. While that may be fairly impressive for what isn't regarded as one of the year's bigger events, this year's does boast a fairly heavy - although not as top-heavy - lineup, which you can read in it's entirety here.

Notables in this year's lineup include, but are not limited to Jack White, whose solo album is set to debut a few weeks before the fest, and is the first confirmed show of the ex-White Stripe. Alongside White will be Bon Iver, who seem to be on pace to play every festival this year, the ever-elusive Beck, The Shins, Tenacious D, The Roots, and native heroes Shabazz Palaces, among many others, including comedy acts.

Tickets are on sale now for $315. The event will take place May 25-28

Monday Bears: Flamings Lips bring their "Dark Side" to Fallon

Last Friday, April 16, The Flaming Lips and album helpers Stardeath and White Dwarfs brought their taste of Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon to the Late Night with Jimmy Fallon stage.

Celebrating the release of the album's vinyl release on record store day, the band brought out the biggest and brightest for their cover version, exploding in an electric ray of colors. For anyone who may have thought (or feared) the Flaming' version would be a direct cover of Pink Floyd's, no need to worry.

You can catch the Flaming Lips and Stardeath and White Dwarfs performing their entire version of Dark Side this year's Bonnaroo. The album is available now.

Wednesday Bears: Lollapalooza 2010 Rumors Begin

As it is every year with Bears and Bullets, I like to keep you guys up to date as much as possible with all of the rumors for my favorite summer music festival, Lollapalooza.

With the festival's 2009 paltry headliners in the rear-view mirror, 2010 looks to up the ante and then some for ticket-holders. As of today, multiple sources indicate that the headline list could resemble something in the mold of: Arcade Fire, Lady Gaga, The Strokes, Green Day, the recently re-united Soundgarden and The Flaming Lips, with artists like Phoenix, MGMT, Dirty Projectors, Yeasayer and Hot Chip also making the possible billing.

I'll continually keep you up to date on anything and everything Lollapalooza until the August 6-8 Chicago, IL festival.

Bonnaroo Lineup Announced Throughout Today

Not too long after Coachella and the Pitchfork Music Festival revealed parts of their official 2010 lineups, Manchester, Tennessee's four-day Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival is doing the same.

Announced throughout the day (one act every six minutes) via the festival's Myspace, this year's lineup (as of now) includes several large acts including Jay-Z, Phoenix and The Flaming Lips performing Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. Several other acts include Weezer, Wale, The Avett Brothers, Regina Spektor, Norah Jones, Gwar (hopefully following Jones), and many, many more.

Tickets for the June 10-13 festival are available now. Expect more updates and bigger names in the near future.

Monday Bears: New Yeasayer - Ambling Alp

Yeasayer have been rising further and further atop the dense indie-music spectrum with their searing new-age psychedelic pop. Their 2007 album All Hour Symbols, featuring one of the year's best tracks "2080," was a rushing score with a hint of The Flaming Lips and late 60's melodies. Their single "Tightrope," featured on this year's Dark Was the Night, was a bit of a growth for the Brooklyn band, slightly departing from the long-winded psychedelic songs of All Hour Symbols and Wait for the Summer EP, giving listeners a friendlier, more accessible sound without losing their original swirls and vibe.

The band's newest single, "Ambling Alp," is featured on their upcoming studio album Odd Blood, scheduled for release next February. The song is undeniably uplifting and enticing, coursing through in a bright electric rhythm. It seems the band is continuing to improve early in their careers at an alarming rate. And if "Ambling Alp" proves anything, it's that Odd Blood should be one of the more talked about albums of 2010.

Wednesday Bears: Flaming Lips on Morning Become Eclectic

A week after The Flaming Lips brought "Watching the Planets" to the Tonight Show stage, Coyne and the rest of the Lips performed a nearly 40 minute set for KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic.

Starting off with the aforementioned track (a little more toned down than their Tonight Show version), the group plays through various songs from the band's new album Embryonic along with getting several KCRW members to put their collective efforts in a "I Can Be a Frog,"sing-along.

As an added bonus, you get to hear the first taste of the oft-rumored Flaming Lips cover of Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon, with their version of "Eclipse."

Wednesday Bears: Flaming Lips bring "Planets" to Conan

A day before the scheduled release of The Flaming Lips upcoming 12th studio album, Embryonic, the Oklahoma legends brought their alternative psyche waves to the Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien stage to perform the abrasively noisy and adventurous "Watching the Planets."

Considering the Tonight Show is still in it's, well, embryonic stage, seeing a show so invigorating and energetic can be considered nothing more than a delightful change of pace, especially for those who decide to trudge right through The Jay Leno Show before. Much appreciated.

Tuesday Bears: New Flaming Lips Video: I Can Be a Frog

Supporting the Flaming Lips upcoming 12th studio album, Embryonic, the Oklahoma natives have performed stints at Pitchfork Music Festival, ATP, and the Colbert Report before releasing the first video for the talk-along song "I Can Be a Frog." The song is a slow, quiet, and kind of odd choice to be put in video format, but still presents its quirky fun.

For those who may not recognize, that's Karen O's voice playing the part of sound effects as the brunette model (in a setting resembling Roxy Music's Country Music album cover) acts out each of the animals Wayne Coyne name-checks.
