Don't let the song title throw you off. Minneapolis band Night Moves' "Country Queen" is a fantastic anthem from their increasingly hyped Colored Emotions LP, which is set for release October 9 via Domino. The single comes months after the release of their "Headlights" 7", which you should take your time to listen to below as well.
Nailing down where alternative music's waves are flowing towards is really a matter of two directions, more often than not. Sure there are sub-genres going through strings of mutant mitosis every week, creating splendid off-breeds of the sounds we all know and love. But to put it simply, there are two primary directions: revivalism and new.
Django Django are unflinchingly new. The London band's post new-wave is branded with neo-futurism to a degree that makes MGMT look like its falling behind. Sprinting through the band's 13-track self-titled debut from last year and its hard to say there's much resonance from sound to sound other than the uncommon ambition to sound like no one else is doing it.
Handclaps, bizarro Afrofusion, glam, and even mulling electro spacing are all here. Sometimes all on the same song like "Firewater," which drifts and dreams like its plowing through the desert before sunset. It's a long-winded description for something that seems like ambition, which will certainly be on play tonight.
Alongside the group at Philadelphia's spectacular Union Transfer will be Minneapolis band Night Moves, which were featured on the site last August. Tickets for the show are still available here, with doors opening at 8 p.m.
After a long-weekend of mediocre basketball spectacles - aside from this - I've returned with a little rundown of the best of the last few days.
Last night I got my first taste of Adult Swim's awesome new show Delocated, which has already been endorsed by Aziz Ansari considering he's in everything now. If I ever did another You Should Be Watching segment I'd do one about this, but this website does stuff a little differently now.

A couple days ago, and I missed this, the trailer for Seth Rogen's new movie Observe & Report (Not Paul Blart: Mall Cop) was released. You can check out the Red Band Trailer here - note the appearance of Aziz again. That's a two count.

You may remember Brooklyn's Dirty Projectors performing "Cannibal Resource" from their already acclaimed album Bitte Orca earlier this month on Letterman. Well, the band stuck around NYC to bring a new gem, "Mount Wittenberg Orca" (explained here), renamed "When the World Comes to an End," to the Late Night with Jimmy Fallon stage.
Amber, Haley, and Angel stutter their soft-voiced harmonies to a vocal beat as lead singer Dave Longstreth moves through the off-kilter tempo of the song, originally featured in the band's six song bookstore show in SoHo for Björk.
