Pains of Being Pure at Heart on Letterman

I'm a little unfair with the Pains of Being Pure at Heart. It might be their name. Okay, it's their name. But, from what I've heard from the New York group's follow up to their 2009 self-titled debut, I'm slowly coming around.

Last night, the group performed "Heart in Your Heartbreak" from their upcoming Belong LP on Letterman. Again, the naming might throw some people off, but that shouldn't be distracting anyone at this point.

Belong is due out next Tuesday, March 29 via Slumberland Records. You can stream the entire LP here.

Friday Bears: More new music from Burial

Late last night (or early this morning), another track from Burial's now heavily-anticipated 12" Street Halo 12" was leaked online. "NYC," is a shaky, drowning ethereal seven and a half minute push that breathes like the darkest parts of the night.; an absolute must-listen.

Thursday Bears: Strokes make Letterman return

The Strokes just seem to fit on Letterman. During their 2000-06 heyday, the band constantly frequented the Late Show and Late Night with Conan O'Brien (including month long specials). Now with Conan dearly departed (Jack White/the White Stripes were always his band anyway) from the New York area, and the Strokes already previewing Angles on SNL, the Late Show seemed apt.

Last night, the group returned, performing the live debut of "Taken for a Fool," one of Angles stand-outs. It still has that classic Strokes-performance cool apathy, but they seem to try a bit harder than they did on SNL a few weeks ago.

All the Lollapalooza rumors so far ... today.

It's been a while since I've filtered the website (and not my Twitter account, which you should be following) with Lollapalooza rumors, so I'll get back on base.

Yesterday, it was pretty much revealed through several sources and suspicious scheduling that A Perfect Circle are set to be one of the six main headliners at this year's festival. So, for those that need a refresher, that makes four confirmed headliners: Eminem, Foo Fighters, Muse (all three completely confirmed), and A Perfect Circle.

With two headlining spots remaining (and three Perry's Place, the electronic/dance stage, headliners still unnamed), there have been speculation for a small handful of artists, including; Coldplay, My Morning Jacket, and now Death Cab for Cutie.

Rumors, however, became even more interesting after Perry Farrell revealed in the March/April issue of Relix that, “I can’t tell you who’s gonna be headlining this year, but one of the headliners is a dance act." Early rumors indicate that the probable act will be either Justice, Deadmau5, who played the festival two years ago, or the Chemical Brothers. Daft Punk was also mentioned, but chances of them performing again seem like a disillusioned dream.

The festival's Last.fm page, which has every artist confirmed or semi-confirmed for the weekend, has also listed Justice. Again, it's not a confirmation, but a reasonable suspicion for the French duo's speculative appearance. From this point, I'd make them the most likely headliner to be named next.

Outside of headlining rumors, several acts have also been added to the billing, including; Arctic Monkeys, Surfer Blood, and Tennis. It may also be within reason to assume that the Vaccines will make the lineup. The group is currently touring with the Arctic Monkeys and have no Chicago dates scheduled around August 5-7.

Stay tuned to Bears and Bullets for any and all rumors and information regarding the annual festival through the coming weeks ...

Tuesday Bears: New Crystal Stilts video - Through the Floor

Prepping the release of their second studio album, Brooklyn four-piece Crystal Stilts have released their first single "Through the Floor."The accompanying video is a blippy color-glossed spasm of what ends up being just a bunch of fun dots.

The group's album In Love with Oblivion is set for release April 12 via Slumberland Records.

Monday Bears: New White Denim - Anvil Everything

I'd say welcome back, considering I took a slight hiatus during spring break (my last, ever), but I didn't really tell anyone so ... hey, here we are anyway.

Now that SXSW is officially done and I'm not receiving 18,000 e-mails a day about it, we can get back to the normal music flow. Austin natives White Denim, who released "Drug" off their upcoming album D a couple weeks ago, released their second single "Anvil Everything" earlier today. You can listen and grab the download below, and grab D May 24, via Downtown Music.
