Madlib - Hold The Organ

After finally announcing the release of his upcoming Rock Konducta series, the world's greatest living producer Madlib has given out one of the first tracks from the series with "Hold The Organ."

The vinyl-only release of Volume One (a two part series) comes December 10, with a more diverse package of the two parts coming in spring of next year. Until then, listen to the new track below, courtesy of Madlib's own Invazion label.

MED & Blu - Peroxide [(ft. Dam-Funk) Prod. Madlib]

Tomorrow, the Stones Throw duo MED & Blu will be releasing their second EP of 2013 with The Buzz. The album's first cut features Mayer Hawthorne, which doesn't interest us in the slightest (never forget). However, the other cut features help from Dam-Funk and the supreme deity Madlib. DF plays his role with the ultra-dirty chorus, while MED & Blu flash between Madlib's bumping beats.

Madlib - Black Widow

This December, fans will finally get a full-fledged listen to the first installment of Madlib's massive Rock Konducta series, with the initial Rock Konducta Vol. 1. "Black Widow" takes the series African inspirations and splices in a bit of J Dilla vocals in a genre melting exchange. Check out below and read up on the LA producer's series via Rappcats.

Freddie Gibbs and Madlib - Harold's

Celebrating the release of the brand new Deeper EP (out now on Rappcats), Freddie Gibbs and Madlib (Madgibbs for those who may have forgotten) debuted the new food-centric "Harold's," one of Gibbs favorite Chicago-area shops. The EP preludes the duo's 2014 full-length collaborative duo Piñata, which features a lot of musical guests.

Freddie Gibbs and Madlib - Deeper

Gary, Indiana rapper Freddie Gibbs, once again, has paired up with Los Angeles' preeminent producer Madlib for another gem.

"Deeper" is the first taste from the upcoming EP of the same name, which preludes the duo's 2014 LP Piñata. So it's pretty safe to expect some explosive stuff from these two within the next few months. Until then, check out "Deeper" below and grab the Deeper EP before it ships out September 9.

Quasimoto video - Catchin' The Vibe

The high-pitched Quasimoto, one of the many appreciated projects from LA super-producer/DJ/rapper Madlib, has a brand new trash-centric video for the solemn played "Catchin' The Vibe." The video follows an unknown dump-dweller crafting a mysteriously colorful physical project in the Portland rain as jerky kids look onward. But hey, there's a happier ending than you might think.

Mad genius producer Madlib, perhaps more so than any relevant artist today, has enough produced material to last him several lifetimes already. From side-project efforts, to solo work, and co-oped material, the West coast icon seemingly never runs out of material. And the best part of that for fans is that his catalog seems constantly new, even if its stored in archives or lost in DJ sets. In DFA alum Larry Gus' new "The Blue Flowers (Between Blue and Blue)" mix, the producer travels through 54 minutes of Madlib's material, much of which will still be new to most listeners.

New Madlib - The Mad March

Those who keep endless tabs on LA producer Madlib will note that the seminal hip-hop craftsmen will be bringing an exclusive Sound Of Zamrock show to the 1015 Folsom in San Francisco June 7. For those who may be unaware, the Zamrock moniker is directed at one of the producer's favorite lesser-known scenes, '70s Zambia rock and soul. This isn't his first venture into the Zambia scene, which was the main focus of his 2010 7-album release Beat Konducta.

"The Mad March", which is available to stream below, will be sold in extremely limited quantities (300 to be exact) as a 45, only at Sound Of Zamrock. But knowing Madlib, expect a lot of Rock Konducta material to be released in the near future.

New Oh No video - Boom

Oh No, the Stones Throw alum whom some might no better as the younger brother of the beloved Madlib, just released the newest of his Disrupted Ads tracks "Boom." Aptly paired up with little-known action sequences in films, where the "Boom" works well, the supposedly nerving track seems a lot more fun with the video.

New Madlib mixtape - Madlib Medicine Show: Pill Jar

It's a heavy Madlib week here. Just yesterday we caught the Los Angeles producer's work with MED & BLU on "Burgundy Whip," but in case anyone wanted more, he debuted his Madlib Medicine Show: Pill Jar mixtape.

The eight-track mix from his Medicine Show series features the aforementioned MED, along with Guilty Simpson and Karriem Riggins. Stream/download the whole mix below.

In one of the more exciting stories of the day, Freddie Gibbs and Madlib are planning a full-length release some time later this year. Before that, however, the two will release a follow-up EP to last year's Thuggin', entitled Shame.

#15: Danny Brown - Monopoly
"Monopoly" sounds genuinely like Danny Brown, born poor and raised in Detroit, generally deals with dangerous shit. The beats are strong, sullen, and dirty, with Brown noting that he's been through a lot to get where he is. But in reality, "Monopoly" is nothing more than a take to shit on his opponents, and if there's any doubt of it, he goes to length to emphasize that he'll "literally" shit on their mixtapes. It's the perfect blend of what makes XXX so great; deceivingly intelligent rhymes split between Brown's desire to be understandably weird.

#14: Smith Westerns - All Die Young
The centerpiece to Smith Westerns' sophomore release Dye It Blonde, "All Die Young" takes the lighter, lo-fuzz surf-rock aura of the group's first work and blows it up in front of multi-layered keyboards and Max Kakacek's slow-tuning guitar solos to the "everyone join together" climactic finale. But more so than what it is, "All Die Young" is the sound of a band actually getting their heads together and figuring out what's great instead of what is just good.

#13: Fucked Up - Queen of Hearts
"Queen of Hearts" is your true introduction to Fucked Up's long-winded tail of David, the protagonist in David Comes to Life. But rather than space out an all-too long story to fit every finite detail of David's exploits, the group had enough sense to try their hand at hardcore story telling, I.E., lead-singer Pink Eyes still gets to spit his throat-scathing wails behind messy, sonic guitars. But the story doesn't necessarily wrap up the listener, as it shouldn't. It's Fucked Up's perfected method that still comes through on top.



#12: Freddie Gibbs and Madlib - Thuggin'
Freddie Gibbs and Madlib joining up is just a good idea. It had to be said. The eponymous track from the collaborative duo's Thuggin' EP, features Madlib's well-renown super-rich sampled beats and Gibbs' best work of the year (that includes a lot of cameos along the way). A lot of the songs on these lists have well-detailed reasoning behind their unreal quality, but when it comes to "Thuggin'," there isn't much more to say than just, goddamn, listen to how good this is. It might be a cop-out, but man if it isn't correct.

#11: FIDLAR - Wake Bake Skate
Pot doesn't need an anthem. It's had enough artists striving to bow to the temple of getting high and hanging out since the 50s, but we have to admit that there's something stupidly endearing about it. FIDLAR's "Wake Bake Skate," an ode to being broke, lazy, and smoking, doesn't strive to collect the ever-growing range of metaphor's of contemporary American laziness, but knows how to make it seem a lot more fun, despite the depressing reality of what they're saying.
