World Cafe Live, Sep. 6 - Patrick Watson, Great Lake Swimmers (Preview)

There's a little intricacy to Patrick Watson. Paired with his backing band, the ebb and flow of his catalog drifts through minimal changes and arches, but there's no clear shift from idea to idea.

From his 2003 debut Just Another Ordinary Day to this year's Adventures In Your Own Backyard, you can spread your effort to try and catch every tempo shift, every tiny clang in the distance, but you'll still have the same, lofty idea: Watson sounds afloat. The catalog fits in an endless dream, cascading through images of rivers and light rain that can slip into any indie movie you're thinking about right now.

With his whimsical melodic folk tunes, it seems terrifically fitting that Canadian group Great Lake Swimmers are Watson's lead-in. Each specialize in the semi-serious, beautifully distant acoustic driven sounds that would fit fairly well on a rainy afternoon - which it looks like it will be tomorrow when they perform at Philadelphia's World Live Cafe.

Tickets are still available for the 8:30 show, which range between $14-$20. As usual, I'll be there, so wave aimlessly and yell my name and I'll say something back. It'll be fun.
