As far as film's go for me, the only thing that remains more astonishing than a brilliantly made film is a horrifically made one. As it stands the word on the upcoming release of Paramount's attempted Summer blockbuster G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra may fall onto the unfortunate rare list of catastrophic movie failures.
Word on the film has been going downhill on a steady basis, but news yesterday released information that entailed the film's failures extend to possible unforeseen distances. According to Erik Davis at Cinematical the film tested so poorly (worst in Paramount movie history, apparently) with viewers that billed director Steven Sommers had to be replaced before the movie was even finished.
For those of you who are interested Sommers, who Latino Review (where the information was originally leaked) notes as a "super hack director," is the director of such critically acclaimed filmed as The Mummy, and Van Helsing, so do declare G.I. Joe a little less than average may be a little deserved.
You can check the story out yourself, or just watch the trailer and rightfully assume.
