I don't really believe there's a border-line to how obstensive and obscure a musical performance can be on a late night talk show, but watching Animal Collective's performance of "Summertime Clothes" off of their Merriweather Post Pavillion LP on Letterman you can't help but get a sense that the majority of the audience is most likely lost.
Three of the band's four members graced the Late Show stage, complete with an aqua light-show and their own set of interperetive dancers, used only to confuse the studio audience members who really have no idea (and still no idea) who Animal Collective are.
