Who Watches The Watchmen?

Apparently, Twentieth Century Fox is… very closely:

By Rob Hurley

Back in July, audiences were treated with the trailer for Watchmen, 300 director Zack Snyder’s newest comic book adaptation based on Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ 1986 comic book of the same name. Ever since, we haven’t been able to get that date out of our heads... March 6th, 2009.

However, fans have been in an uproar as of recent, because of an ongoing lawsuit between Twentieth Century Fox and Warner Bros. Last February, Fox filed a lawsuit against Warner Bros., claiming they owned the distribution rights to any film or project based on the famous graphic novel. The complete details have yet to be confirmed, but the general consensus is that Fox’s lawsuit is being used as a scare tactic to either get Warner Bros. to fork over the distributing rights, or receive a fitting settlement in exchange for the rights. With Warner Bros.’ dismissal request denied in August, it appears that Fox just might get their way.

As of yet, there is no cause for alarm, Watchmen is still scheduled to be released this March. Although, with a court date set in January, just two months before the theatrical release, it’s becoming too close for comfort with fans. Already, talk of a “fanboy onslaught” is spreading which has potential to hurt other upcoming Fox projects.

Whatever may happen, two things are certain: the film is in post-production, on track for its March release, and Watchmen fans have been waiting for this movie for twenty years, so Twentieth Century Fox better get their shit together.

Check out The Watchmen in Theater's (Hopefully) this March from Warner Bros. Pictures.
