Friday Bears: Jimmy Fallon's Pavement cover contest

Unknown to me, Jimmy Fallon has taken a quest to find the best Pavement cover from anyone willing to submit. In the sure pile of submissions, Motion City Soundtrack's lead-singer Justin Pierre put his own version of "We Dance," the lead-track off the group's third album Wowee Zowee.

You can check out the rest of the contest's submissions here.

Tuesday Bears: Our newest obsession - The Pass

When I got my first listen to The Pass, a dance-pop act from Louisville that should be on the lips of indie fans and several variations of hipsters very soon, the first response that came out was Passion Pit. Yeah, there's the obvious sound resemblance (outside of Michael Angelakos's super-high falsettos), but the reason the name jumped out, more or less, was the impossibly enriching single "Vultures."

I'm not calling it "Sleepyhead", the Passion Pit single that essentially began their commercial success, but I wouldn't be surprised if "Vultures" did the same thing.

If the video, below, looks a little weird, it is. It's a play on dozens of popular music blogs, directed by Zach from We Listen For You.

The Pass' debut album, BURST, is due out September 21, via sonBLAST! Records.

Monday Bears: New Reading Rainbow - Wasting Time

Reading Rainbow, the oft-mentioned little band from Philly named after the Levar Burton television phenomenon-ish, have been quietly producing quality singles over the past year. "Wasting Time," off of their upcoming album Prism Eyes, is the same low-fi (and all analog) quality indie dream-pop that's keeping the group under the radar, but in our hearts. Or my heart. My heart.

Prism Eyes is due out November 23, via Hozac Records.
